Don’t be fooled by the demure appearance. The lovely cream tires on my city bikes are steel magnolias: strong, resilient, and ready to face the rocky road ahead. In 18 months of daily commuting, I’ve only had one flat.

Clearly I need to switch over to whatever you’re using. I’ve flatted 3 times in the last month riding to work. Although I suppose that could just be bad luck. One day I had a metal shard stuck in my tire – there’s no getting around that, really, is there?

I think part of the reason I get more flats on my road bike than my city bike is that roads with faster moving cars have more broken glass and other junk on the side of the road. The neighborhood streets are much cleaner.
