Bike Commute Diaries: I’m a Big Spender

19 Nov

When Black Friday comes, I’ll park outside the door. And spend a big wad of money at the most bike-friendly store. Riding my bike has changed my shopping habits: I shop closer to home and more often at small businesses. Great merchandise without the driving and parking hassles and my sales tax stays local.

For the locals, here are some favorite apparel stores with great bike routes/parking:

    Palo Alto
    * Stanford Shopping Center: nice racks at Macy’s women’s (garage size), Macy’s men’s (in front of Coldwater Creek), Nordstrom (by the outdoor cafe)
    * Title 9 on Hamilton Ave: bike corral two doors down
    * Town & Country Shopping Ceter: Athleta, plus A Street Bike Named Desire, Books Inc, etc (racks throughout)
    * Famous Footwear on University Avenue

    Mountain View
    * Kohl’s at San Antonio Shopping Center (rack on Showers Drive side)

    Los Altos
    * Shunzi and Famous Footwear on Main Street
