My commute on Tuesday had me waiting on the wrong-way Caltrain platform with a zone upgrade in hand. In 45 minutes I was in San Francisco, pedaling up the Embarcadero for a business meeting at our advertising agency. I locked my bike to a rack on the street in full view of our conference room and walked inside.
During my meeting, three employees in this small shop rolled in on their bikes, and I met the agency president who commutes by skateboard. After the meeting I rode back to Caltrain, and left my heart in San Francisco.

It gets even better. He rides his bike from home to the Berkeley BART station, locks his bike in the secure bikestation, grabs the skateboard he stores overnight in there, hops on the train to SF and then skateboards 3/4 mile to the office. Pretty awesomely efficient, huh?

Hahah, that really is great. Sounds like a really fun commute–bike, train, board. It’s cool to see people utilizing all of the different ways that you can get around. Thanks for sharing the story!

Just wondering about those beautiful ferries. Where do they go?Are they bike friendly?

The ferries are in general very bike-friendly. I’ve taken them with bikes from Sausaliton and Tiburon in Marin County (north of SF). There are also routes to SF from Larkspur (Marin), Vallejo (south of Napa), Oakland and Alameda (east of SF) that I’m pretty sure allow bikes too.

Oh I’d kill for that commute. Already missing my favourite city and it’s only been 3 months.

I love that it’s the president and general manager that’s commuting this way instead of in a luxury car.
