Fashion Friday: Bike Share Lets Leah Skirt the Issue

When your standard commute bike is a diamond-frame road bike, your standard work uniform gravitates toward dress pants. In a skirt, it’s hard for Leah to throw a leg over the top tube with grace and modesty. Now that step-through Bay Area Bike Share bikes have come to San Jose, Leah’s dress options have opened right up.

Fashion Weekend Edition: Theatre with the Ladies

Bare enough for outdoor dining on a warm day. Classy enough for an evening play with the ladies. Bold enough to make a grand entrance anywhere, with or without the screaming yellow accessories and the pretty red bike.

Fashion Weekend Edition: A Lazy Sunday by the Pool

A round of applause for the swimsuit cover-up, the strategically cut short dress that gives you poolside confidence when you’re not feeling at your bikini best. Add a wide-brimmed hat, sandals and a bag large enough for a towel and a good novel or the Sunday paper and you’re all set. Don’t forget the sunscreen!

Fashion Weekend Edition: San Francisco Bay Blues

Deep strong teal. Heavenly celeste blue-green. Water colors suit San Francisco, a city surrounded by water on three sides. A 3/4 length pleated skirt trench coat in teal protects against the fog rolling off chilly Pacific waters and complements the seafoam Bay Area Bike Share bikes. That’s how this summer rolls in San Francisco.

Fashion Friday: Miguel Needs His Morning Coffee

When you ride Caltrain from San Francisco to San Jose every morning, and then ride your bike eight miles to your office it can be a grind. How does Miguel get through his long commute? A lot of coffee in the tall mug on his Schwinn Coffee, black clothing to hide any spills and a relaxing wake-up ride along the river trail.

Fashion Friday: Jennifer Races for the Train

How does time just slip away? You’re hard at work and suddenly realize your train leaves in 10 minutes. No time for a clothing change, time for accidental cycle chic. Jennifer races her road bike across downtown San Jose in a pencil slim sheath dress and cycling shoes, and hops on the train with seconds to spare.

Fashion Friday: Back to School for Brian

A midlife shift from tech to teaching has Brian rolling onto campus as a student teacher. His wardrobe has shifted as well: jeans to trousers, t-shirt to dress shirt, and a brand new tie for making an impression on the first day of class. What’s not changed is his transportation, a eye-catching belt-driven Trek District single speed.

Fashion Friday: Ladies Night with Deanna in Lace

Friday night may be reserved for bike dates with my sweetie, but I’m declaring Thursday nights for going out with the girls. Deanna straddles the line between ingenue and femme fatale in a black lace over ivory tank dress and snakeskin pumps. Perfect for feeling like a single lady even if only for after work drinks on the avenue.

Fashion Friday: Danny’s Got Street Style

I love a man who owns a distinct fashion sense, whether he’s walking down the street, shredding in the skate park or test riding a bike share bike at San Jose Diridon Station. Danny’s stylin’ it head-to-toe from his Fiend Snap Back Hat down to his Vans SK8 Checkerboard High-Top Sneakers. But it’s the coonskin fur rocking the shoulder of his embellished denim vest that to me is the heart and soul of Danny’s street style.

Fashion Weekend Edition: Watercolor Sundress

When you can’t get away for your family’s annual beach vacation, doing errands around town in a sundress is the next best thing. With its seashell-inspired cutwork embroidery in soft ocean colors, it’s only fitting that I found this sweet little number in Watercolor, Florida, the best bike beach town on the Florida panhandle.
