I’m a woman who owns a bike to suit her every mood: from dressing up for work on my Dutch bike, to carving down hills on my road bike, to hauling groceries across town on my errand bike, to cruising the trails on my custom mountain bike, to mixing it up racing cyclocross. How many bikes would that be? Well, let’s just say that I have one for every day of the week, and if it’s more than that I’m not claiming it.
A native of Louisiana, I now live in the San Francisco Bay Area, where I’m blessed with good weather, interesting terrain and a tolerance for eccentricity that suits me just fine.

ladyfleur: I read your article on the automatic shifting bike you came across on the Caltrain. We have designed an automatic shifting bike that takes the same principles to an entirely new level and we’d love to tell you about it. I’ve been attending NAB for the last 30 years and stay about a mile from the LVCC. I thought it would be smart to bring my bike and ride from the hotel & got an ok for brining the bike into the room. I called LVCC prior to coming out asking if they had bike parking. They replied they did but couldn’t say where. I chickened out and left my commuter at home, but did find four bike racks outside the south and central halls. Here’s a google maps view of where they are located for future travelers.

How nice of you to create a bike rack map! I walked past the South Hall rack every day. It usually had a few bikes on it and occasionally a Vespa-type motor scooter. And one day one of those little four wheeled cars they use of the trade show floor was blocking half of it. It was totally unnecessary too, since there’s plenty of sidewalk around it.

Nice meeting you this morning on Hedding, Janet! Looking forward to your blog on the new green bike lanes in SJ. I appreciate them for safety, awareness for cars, so they get me riding more!
Also noticed this morning that besides us, there were no other women biking to work or as a morning activity. I bet you’ll change that š

I love your blog. Just discovered it while researching for a new bike. Strongly considering a Public M8. I’ve been car-free for over 20 years, but recently moved from Santa Barbara to Denver and my biking needs are different now. Not to mention that the movers apparently destroyed my back wheel and replaced it with a random back wheel, thinking I wouldn’t notice, I guess. I’ve always said I wanted a bike wardrobe (my Gary Fisher mountain bike, plus an ExtraCycle, plus a city bike….). Keep up the good work!

Thanks, Virginia. I think my Public M8 is my most versatile bike. It’s lighter and faster than my red Dutch bike (Viva Juliett) but is upright enough to be and easy “hop on and go” bike.
I can’t believe the movers would try to pass off a random wheel as yours, especially a back wheel.

Well, I bought a cream Public M8i today and rode it home in the rain :). The bike shop happened to have the exact model, color and size that I wanted in the shop and it already had the rear rack installed. I was happy with the test ride so I took the plunge. Nice shop–The Mindful Bike in Denver.

I found your site through your photo on SFGate article about bikes and their owners. I love the info and fun stories on your site. I’m in the process of getting a new bike (sold my old 3 speed beach cruiser) and want to get something better for my needs for hauling stuff around town for my petite height. Love your red bike!

I’m a friend of Clo’s… I was there today and took a picture. I remember seeing this pic under a “Cajun shacks” search engine. I saw your pic and said I know where this is! Lol.
